Born in 1975, Valentine grew up on a tea estate in Chipinge, surrounded by the breathtaking scenery and farming activities that would later inspire his early paintings. These formative experiences shaped his unique perspective on life and art.
From 1995 to 1998, Valentine studied Art for both Industry and Education at Chinhoyi University. He went on to teach art in Chipinge and Bulawayo until 2005, when he decided to dedicate himself fully to his passion for painting. Through determination and hard work, Valentine steadily built a name for himself on the international art scene.
In November 2011, however, his journey took a challenging turn when he was diagnosed with severe rheumatoid arthritis, leaving him largely bedridden and reliant on a wheelchair. Despite this, Valentine’s resilience and artistic spirit continue to shine through his work.
Valentine shared: “I couldn’t paint for 6 years and then started attempting with both the mouth and the deformed right hand. The mouth didn’t work totally, and I had to try bit by bit with the hand again and eventually it worked.”
Despite these challenges, Valentine’s resilient spirit and unwavering faith in God have enabled him to make a remarkable comeback. Over the years, his captivating paintings have won the hearts of many, earning him well-deserved accolades and recognition in both local and international media.
Valentine’s artistic journey has been extraordinary, with his work showcased in 26 solo exhibitions and 47 selected group exhibitions across Zimbabwe and internationally. His story is a testament to the power of perseverance, talent, and faith.
